Powering Business Grant in South Australia: A Great Opportunity to Cut Energy Costs

With rising energy prices, reducing electricity bills and improving efficiency have become key priorities for many businesses in South Australia. To support this, the State Government has introduced the Powering Business Grant – a program designed to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and not-for-profit organisations upgrade their energy systems and reduce operating costs.

Funding Amount and Support

  • Up to $75,000 in grant funding per business

  • Government co-funding of up to 50% of project costs

  • Total program budget: $20 million (available until funds are exhausted)

  • Applications close on 31 October 2025, or earlier if funds are fully allocated

Eligible Project Types

Businesses can choose from two main project categories:

  1. Solar and Battery Storage Systems

    • Generate clean energy and reduce reliance on the grid

    • Store excess energy during the day and use it at night to save on bills

    • Important: Systems must be installed by a NETCC-approved provider or installer to meet compliance requirements.

  2. Energy Efficiency Upgrades

    • Upgrade lighting, heating/cooling, or insulation systems

    • Replace old kitchen, refrigeration, or industrial equipment with energy-efficient models

    • Install smart monitoring and energy management systems

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be an operating SME or not-for-profit organisation in South Australia

  • Have an annual turnover of at least $75,000

  • Have national wages below $18 million

  • Provide at least 50% co-contribution funding
